Kathargaon Education Access & Scholarship Initiative
A comprehensive education support initiative at Kathargaon ZP School providing bicycles, education kits, and scholarships to tribal and economically disadvantaged students to improve access to schooling.
As part of its continued engagement with Kathargaon ZP School, Mission ESW conducted a comprehensive education support initiative aimed at improving access, resources, and long-term educational continuity for students from tribal and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Kathargaon ZP School primarily serves students from tribal and backward communities, with girls and boys studying in nearly equal numbers. Many students travel long distances—often 4 to 5 kilometres from nearby villages such as Sundarpur and Kathargaon—to attend school. Recognising the challenges associated with daily travel, ESW supported the distribution of 62 bicycles to students, enabling them to reach school more safely and consistently.
In addition to mobility support, the initiative included the distribution of 75 educational kits containing notebooks, geometry boxes, exam pads, pens, and waterproof file bags. These resources were designed to address basic academic needs and ensure that students are equipped for their daily learning activities. ESW has also committed to providing specially designed kits for students in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd standards through coordination with school teachers.
A key component of the initiative is the scholarship programme supporting 60 students—46 girls and 14 boys—from tribal and economically vulnerable families. The scholarship provides monthly financial assistance to support educational needs while encouraging financial responsibility and decision-making among students.
Since the school offers education only up to the 7th standard, ESW also placed special emphasis on supporting girls who have recently transitioned to higher-level schools. Continued assistance will help ensure that their educational journeys remain uninterrupted while also inspiring younger students to pursue further studies.
Through this long-term engagement, Mission ESW continues to strengthen access to education, encourage academic aspirations, and build supportive pathways for students in rural and tribal communities.
